Facilitated by Iris Moving picture Commonage and EPFC North, animate room artists are provided with some filmmaking materials and equipment, technical and artistic support, and access to work/exhibition infinite at Moberly and/or Burrard View Fieldhouse. The residency also includes optional opportunities for artists to engage with the local community via workshops, talks, screenings and other public activities. breathing room artists are invited to share their creative discoveries at a free public in-person and/or online effect on the concluding Th of their residency.
Mia Glanz is an artist living in Mexico Metropolis and Vancouver. Working with photography, video, text, ethnography, and new media, her work attends to material civilization equally an exploration of personhood and social weather condition. Mia has a caste in anthropology and constitute biology from the University of British Columbia. She has exhibited in United mexican states and Canada. Grouping shows in Vancouver include the Richmond Art Gallery, Access Gallery, Ho Tam Gallery, and Hatch Art Gallery, and photography as functioning with the Dance Eye BC. Currently she is making virtual installations with the new media collective Society Visual Music, and working on an image/text book project about the stories in the spaces of the Puerto Rico Apartments in United mexican states City.
During my fourth dimension at the breathing room residency I will be using Super 8 and 16mm film to collect moving samples of the "real" world. I will learn how to edit the film physically, and will combine these tools with digital editing to create a fast paced and abstract narrative with a typically analog tactile aesthetic; a music video for a techno track from Mexican producer Eliobeth.
Iris Film Collective is excited to announce member Zoe Kirk-Gushowaty's film installation for the City of Vancouver's public art serial "Platforms: Nosotros Are Here, Live".
Zoe's work, "Upstream", volition be presented on the VanLive! video screen, at Robson and Granville, from March 7 through Apr 2nd 2022, screening once an hour at random times all 24-hour interval and night with a dedicated slot at 12 noon.
"Upstream" explores ane of British Columbia'southward main natural and industrial arteries, the Fraser River. Beginning at the mouth, in the wetlands of the Fraser River Estuary, and moving upstream, the flick follows the Fraser River'southward historical, industrial and ecological bends, in the context of the recent slowdown in human activeness linked to COVID-xix.
"Platforms: We Are Hither, Live"is a series that deputed 23 Vancouver-based and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) artists grappling with the problems revealed by a still-unfolding global pandemic.

Our proficient friends at Cineworks are excited to present a 6-part series on the history of avant-garde cinema with renowned experimental filmmaker, digital media, and installation artist, Chris Welsby.
With weekly Friday seminars in February & March (excluding Thursday, Feb 17), this series volition explore moving paradigm practices from the early European Avant-Garde movement to the emergence of Video Art in the 1960s, and New Media of the tardily 20th and early on 21st centuries.
The format for the events will include a lecture from Chris Welsby followed past screenings and an informal discussion.

A collaborative film experiment at

Iris Film Collective are excited to announce a new group film initiative based on the Exquisite Corpse concept. In this iteration, one member makes a picture using a unmarried roll of 16mm or Super 8, and and then passes its final images on to the side by side member who must begin their film with these images in mind as influence and inspiration. This carries on until all filmmakers have completed their works and we take a string of interrelated but utterly distinct celluloid visions ready to present to you publicly! A premiere screening is tentatively prepare for late summertime. In the meantime keep your eyes on the Fieldhouse window as we screen rushes, rolls, negatives and tests randomly over the coming months while we consummate our films in the darkroom and studio infinite.

We are very excited to accept Kenny McDonald at the Iris Motion picture Collective's Burrard View Fieldhouse for a mini-residency Dec 1-ix, 2021.
During his time at the Fieldhouse, Kenny will be working on his brusk flick inSunrise. The film investigates Hastings-Sunrise within its historical context equally a place that has been in constant negotiation betwixt commercial and industrial development, residential growth, and public and private recreation. Kenny will be working in 16mm hand-processed negative and environmental soundscapes with audio recordings from the neighbourhood's environment.
A piece of work-in-progress screening will take place December 8th, 7pm online @theirisfilmers (instagram).
Bio: Kenny McDonald is a Vancouver-born filmmaker and photographer, with a Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Media from Ryerson Academy. His practice addresses the complexity of interpersonal relationships, notions of personal and social memory, and the touch both have on space and mural.

Hân Phạm (b.1999) is an emerging Vietnamese documentary/ experimental filmmaker and artist from Saigon, Vietnam. Working with experimental haptic video and film, photography, and soundscape compositions, her works ofttimes thinks through the ephemerality of memory, language, and history in relation to the constantly changing and dislocated landscapes, rooting in the inbetweeness of distance equally infinite for reflection. Hân has exhibited at Vancouver International Picture show Festival, DOXA Documentary Motion picture Festival, Milwaukee Secret Picture show Festival, Vancouver Queer Film Festival, and Vines Arts Festival, presented her work in a public installation with Mountain Pleasant Community Art Screen in 2020-2021, and participated in the VIFF Catalyst Mentorship Plan.
